2026 Annual Ram Sale
Our Annual Ram Sale is just around the corner, and we are really excited for everyone to see this year’s sale team.
We will be offering 150 SRS Poll Merino Rams, all of which have been Genomic tested and have full pedigrees available. Not only are all of the rams genomic-tested, but they have also been measured extensively for growth, resilience and wool traits, ensuring that the genetic package is accurate and repeatable.
This year we will be displaying the new SRS index developed by our stud breeders in collaboration with Dr. Alex Ball and Dr. Mark Ferguson from NextGenAgri. We hope that this tool simplifies the selection process to breed a balanced merino; however, please remember that if you are chasing individual traits, then use the index as a guide and then refine it through individual traits.
And lastly, this is just a tool, and visual selection for Density and length is paramount, combined with structure and shape to breed a true SRS Merino!
SRS® Index
Introducing the SRS® Index. The SRS® Group decided after the ram selling season in 2025 that we needed our own Index to reflect our unique breeding philosophy which was developed over 30 years by the Late Dr Jim Watts.
A balanced selection tool combining production, wool quality and resilience in one number.
SRS® wool is bred for quality on a wrinkle-free skin — low in fleece rot and flystrike risk — captured through CV, staple strength, colour, curvature, strength, length and micron.
“Doing-ability” reflects a ewe’s ability to stay reproductively sound under pressure while raising fast-growing, early-finishing lambs — driven by growth, fat, muscle, WEC and weaning rate.
IMF is included for eating quality, which SRS® believes will be an important price differential in the future.
True performance shows up when conditions get tough. When combined with visual selection for Density and Length, the SRS® Index brings it all together, balanced, for easier selection.
